Parent Involvement

Our Mission

Indianapolis Public Schools is committed to involving parents* in the success of their children. IPS has staff at the district and neighborhood levels who are dedicated to developing and coordinating parent activities to this end.

At IPS, parent involvement is more than just a program: it's a process that builds and includes parents as partners in the education of their children. Opportunities for partnership can occur in the home with home-time activities; in the schools as volunteers or members of the school decision-making committee; at the district level on committees such as Text Book Adoption, Report Card Committee, the Parent Advisory Council, and Title I Parent Advisory Council; or in groups such as PTA, PTO, and Parents for Public Education. These are just a few of the ways for parents to be involved.

* We recognize that our students live in many different kinds of households. The term "parent" refers to any caring adult who provides parenting and guidance to our students.
